In 2006, just like my child foundation was founded by Vivian Glyck in the United States of America as a 501 (c) 3 with a mission to support the delivery of effective healthcare, education, microenterprise, social justice, and girls’ empowerment programs in central Uganda by using a holistic approach of creating healthy communities. Within the first 10 years, the organization was able to successfully deliver critical services to over 200,000 individuals in nearly 100 communities. By 2015 several of Just Like My Child Foundation’s pioneer programs began graduating into self sustainability and independence from the need for further financial assistance. This led to a strategic transition of the organization.

In 2016, Just Like My Child foundation became an officially registered NGO in Uganda. The now Uganda based NGO, referred to as Just LIke My Child Foundation Uganda is led by Country Director, Audrey Kanyesigye who oversees a team of 12 dedicated Ugandans who implement the organization's programs. Just Like My Child Foundation Uganda continues to serve in the Central region of Uganda, namely Luwero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola districts.

Just Like My Child Foundation has established a long-term commitment to the communities in which it works by building understanding and trust. The organization continues as it has done for the last 15 years to collaborate and co-invest with communities in Central Uganda and remains embedded at the grassroots in order to develop a level of cultural awareness and understanding that ensures communities are engaged and impact is sustainable. Nearly every member of the Just Like My Child Foundation Uganda team was born and raised in the areas where the organization works.

Through the years of working to provide sustainable solutions to health, social, and economic challenges in impoverished communities in Central Uganda, Just Like My Child Foundation theorized that targeting adolescent girls might PREVENT new generations from ever entering the cycle of poverty and disease. As a result, Just Like My Child Foundation took the steps to develop programming that would eliminate harmful cultural practices, keep girls in school, keep girls safe from forced child marriage, early pregnancy, rape and disease. In order to deliver effective leadership and empowerment programming for girls, boys and adults, JLMC designed the following three core projects. All three programs work in unison to reinforce Just Like My Child Foundation’s belief that educating a girl results in a stronger community and a brighter future.

  1. Girl power project

  2. Project justice

  3. Mandela Project

Just Like My Child Foundations work to empower girls to live the life of their choice requires the support of government officials, religious and cultural leaders, schools, communities and other influential stakeholders. The organization is able to successfully implement these three critical programs because of a dedicated board of directors, and a devoted team of expert child mentors, trainers, volunteers and professionals in international development and non-profit organizational management.
